So the new semester has started. I have two new classes and they are both packed full of lots of students who seem quite interested in having some fun with photography. This is going to be a great semester!
Painting With Light – Fall 2011
We had a great time again painting with light. This has got to be one of my favorite activities. The students always come up with such creative ideas and ways to use light. Here are their favorites.

Dark Room Schedule
Some students have been asking about when the last day for dark room is. I got a hold of the lab manager and he says that the last day is this Thursday. If you’d like to do any more printing, that is the last day to do it.

Dark Room on Dec. 3rd
Just a quick note to confirm that we are going to the dark room tomorrow. We will meet at the South City Campus (1700 South State Street) by my main back door at 8:00. We will be entering the building at 8:05 and locking it behind us. If you are late you will not be able to enter and will not be able to participate in the dark room experience. Please be on time. Don’t forget your dark room paper and your 35mm black & white negatives. Thanks.

Freezing Fieldtrip
My students today survived a rather cold field trip. They all enjoyed the hands-on quiz in the cold and then shooting pictures as it got even colder with the coming storm and started to rain. There was no complaining or talk of mutiny. Thanks guys. You all make teaching quite enjoyable.

Random Bag of Crap
Here is an assignment inspired by Woot.com. I brought a random bag of stuff in and the students were asked to photograph it as creatively and humorously as possible. It is fun sometimes to just relax and photograph things as silly as possible. I loved the results. Here are some of my favorites.
Saturday Dark Room (Round Two)
For my Saturday class: Unfortunately, the dark room will not be available tomorrow. We will meet in our regular class room and enjoy the history presentations. Bring your cameras ready to shoot. Also be prepared for a quiz on Qualities of Light and Digital Photography. We will try dark room again later (hopefully). Thanks for your patience. See you in class tomorrow.

Near and Far Fieldtrip
So the Near and Far Field Trip downtown as great fun. There were some amazing photos and combinations of near and far. Overall I think I liked the near ones better. The compositions were stronger and easier to read with less clutter. Great job. Here are some of my favorites.

Saturday Class Dark Room Time Change!!!
For my Saturday class only. There has been a change of plans. It seems that the South City Building is not open on Saturdays and no one has been able to locate the person responsible for making it open. We therefore are not going to have class on the street at South City in a snow storm. We will be having class at our regular class room on the Redwood Road Campus. Please make sure to be there. Bring your cameras. We will reschedule the dark room day for a time when we have access. Sorry about the confusion. See you in class.
